About Department

The Department of Library and Information Science has been offering two years integrated Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) and Ph.D. Programmes at the moment. The department is working with a vision to educate individuals for carrier as librarian, knowledge and information specialist and to undertake instruction, research and service programme that need current and emerging information and technology needs. The Department is having advanced infrastructural facilities like Info Tech Lab with latest technology such as XEON Server, 10 PC's with 256 kbps leas line, Scanner, OHP, Laser Printer etc. The department focuses mainly on the advanced teaching and research. The curriculum of the course is very comprehensive and job oriented. The department involves the student in practical, seminars, conferences, debates. The department used to arrange a study tour locally and nationally for the students to visit well established libraries and information centers to let them aware of the functioning and services of the same.

COURSE STRUCTURE

NOTE: Each Theoretical and Practical Paper is given 100 Teaching Hours. In each Theory paper out of this 100 marks,68 hours are for classroom teaching; 19 hours for Assignment &13 hours for Seminar. In each Practical paper out of these 100 marks, 68 hours are for Practice; 16 hours for Assignment &16 hours for Classroom Teaching. Thus each unit of Theory paper is given 13 Classroom Teaching, 4 Assignment, 3 Seminar.

Study Tour : The students of M.L.I.Sc. Semester 2nd & 4th were taken out for study tour in the month of March 2007 at IIT Chennai Library, CLRI Library, Madras University Library etc. accompanied by the Dr. K.L.Mahawar, Head of the Deptt. and Ms.Shilpi Verma, Lecturer in the deptt.

Seminars : A Seminar on the topic “Towards Knowledge Society’ was organized on the occasion of Ambedkar Jyanti, 2003. Department organizes seminars and Group discussions with the students in the deptt. on regular basis to inculcate the research habits among them.

Faculty Members : The faculty members of the department are engaged in several other developmental activities of the University other than their routine work, viz., Dr. K. L. Mahawar, Head of the Deptt. working as Dean Student welfare (DSW) and Incharge-Placement cell of the University,Ms Shilpi Verma, Lecturer working as Sports Co-coordinator of the University, Mr. Ranjeet Kr. Choudhary, Lecturer working as active member of University Hindi Cell. Faculty members are having several research publications as well.

Extra Curricular Activities : Most of students have participated in Cultural Programme activities on 10th Jan 2008 Foundation Day Function of the University.
